The following comments and FAQs are contributions to this website from the peer leaders in T.H.E.’s Therapeutic Community:
”All clients entering T.H.E. or any other program have questions about where their lives are headed. In helping new clients become acclimated and appreciative of the opportunities they have, questions invariably arise. The following is a list of commonly asked questions from new and potential clients. The list is not all-inclusive but may offer some perspective. The way T.H.E. distinguishes itself from other community-based programs is the peer-led Therapeutic Community model, and we are always trying to make it stronger. So if what follows does not answer your questions, keep asking. It is better than sitting on questions that become resentments.”
Q: How long is treatment?
A: Completing treatment is not determined in time, but rather in change; change of thought, attitude, feelings, and behavior. Hopefully, treatment will be seen as an avenue for the curiosity of self, change, and lifestyle.
Q: Is there any structure?
A: There is a lot of structure and support from the treatment program and your Community Supervision Team (CST). Your peers and CST partner with you as you progress through treatment. Expectations are high, but you receive encouragement to reach your goals.
Q: What does it take to succeed in this program?
A: Many clients have successfully completed treatment and continue to work with and support peers and the therapeutic community.
A: You can talk to your kids and family here. You can spend time with them and eventually live with them. The process is long but you choose to take the necessary steps to keep them safe. Relationships in family must be honest, open and free of manipulation.
Q: Can I talk to my kids and my family?
A: Part of taking ownership and responsibility is being financially responsible. Unemployment leads to low self-esteem and isolation, both of which are high risk and dangerous. You’re expected to be employed as soon as possible. There are more than 100 clients in T.H.E., which is an excellent source for job leads.
