Teaching Humane Existence (T.H.E.) has been providing community-based sex offense-specific treatment in Colorado since 1983. Embracing the spirit of Therapeutic Community principles, T.H.E. provides clients accountability with support and works to further community safety.
1983 – T.H.E. founded
1984 – Introduced Shared Living Arrangements (SLA), a housing system where T.H.E. peers reside together to increase accountability and oversight in the residential and community setting
1999 – Instituted the Life Management Association (LMA), the first Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) operated by T.H.E. peers to oversee the SLA system
2007 – Launched the Watch House Project, a community corrections program for individuals who have committed sexual offenses as an alternative to incarceration
2008 – Received endorsement from Human Rights Watch, an international organization, for the Watch House Project
2014 – The Life Management Association (LMA) became an S-Corp Colorado non-profit organization operated by T.H.E. peers
2023 – Licensed by the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration for outpatient Substance Use Program services, specifically for individuals who have committed sexual offenses
